Dear Happy Friends:)
,
Welcome to our Happ-E-Newsletter and Happy September 1, 2001 to all of you.
Happ-E-Note:) I can't give you happiness! But I am doing the next best thing, and that is to bring you the decision to find happiness within yourself, with the help of this newsletter.
This is a bimonthly newsletter whose purpose is to remind you to make the "Happiness Decision." You will also find our meetings dates, happiness information, and a copy of the Be Happy Zone Articles published twice a month in the Fairfield Citizen-News. Read today's article: Happiness Is Mental Wealth! Enjoy it, and send it on to your friends.
Happ-E-News:) The Happiness Club was just in the Connecticut Post Newspaper, this past Friday, August 31, 2001. Joyce Gabriel, a wonderful columnist just wrote this article about the happiness club. Joyce, we salute you for being a "positive press person." Joyce's column is in the Connecticut Post every Friday in the Women Wise section. Thank you for spreading happiness to others!
The universal message is to 'just be happy'
By Joyce Gabriel
A few weeks ago, I wrote a column about liking to surround myself with people for whom the glass is always half full rather than half empty. I got quite a few e-mails from readers, but none more intriguing than the one from Lionel Ketchian, founder of The Happiness Club.

Happ-E-Book Quote:) "Show me a person who is waiting for life to be perfect before he allows himself to be happy and I'll show you a person who will never be happy." -- Richard Carlson, Ph.D.
Happ-E-Book Recommendation:) You Can Be Happy No Matter What, by Richard Carlson, Ph.D. This is a really great book, and it is one of my favorites. Although it has "therapy" in the title. Don't let that fool you. It is one of the best books on understanding happiness, it's benefits, as well as it's importance. This is the same author of the book "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff," which you probably have head about. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to you.
Happ-E-Quote:) "For whatever reasons, society has come to accept the notion that happiness is elusive and complicated. Therapists have certainly done their part to reinforce this message. But it isn't true. What is true is this: All legitimate principles of happier living are simple and easy to apply." -- Richard Carlson, Ph.D.
Happ-E-Gram:) Thank you to Dottie George in Texas for sending us this wonderful e-mail to keep our heads above water, it's called:
Everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah's Ark...
One: Don't miss the boat.
Two: Remember that we are all in the same boat.
Three: Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the Ark.
Four: Stay fit. When you're 600 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
Five: Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
Six: Build your future on high ground.
Seven: For safety's sake, travel in pairs.
Eight: Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs in time.
Nine: When you're stressed, float a while.
Ten: Remember, the Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.
Eleven: No matter the storm, when you are with God, there's always a rainbow waiting.
Happ-E-Mail:) We received this great e-mail from a new subscriber to the Happ-E-Newsletter.
My name is Lisa and I am very interested in receiving your newsletter. I had heard of your club before and decided it was time to join in the happiness.
I am a single mother of two beautiful daughters. Although times get very tough and money is almost nonexistent at times, I always remain positive and don't let things get me down. It took many years to get to this point, but I am much happier when I just take things day by day with a smile on my face.
Sincerely,
Lisa S.
Dear Lisa,
Thank you for signing up for the Happiness Newsletter. I think you will find it will do you a world of good. You will also find it will make life better for everyone around you as well. You are on the list for the Happiness Newsletter, hope you enjoy it!
Stay Happy:),
Lionel

Happ-E-Mail:) We would like to thank Barbara Zarifian from NJ for sending us these great thoughts on life:
Are you A Reason, A Season, or A Lifetime?
Pay attention to what you read. After you read this, you will know the reason it was sent to you! People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When you figure out which one it is, you will know what to do for each person.
When someone is in your life for a REASON. . .
It is usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend, and they are! They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrong doing on your part, or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered. Now it is time to move on.
When people come into your life for a SEASON. . .
It is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They bring you an experience of peace, or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.
When people come into your life for a LIFETIME. . .
Lifetime relationships teach you lifetime lessons; things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person, and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.
Thank you for being a part of my life.

Happ-E-Power:) "I believe life is constantly testing us for our level of commitment, and life's greatest rewards are reserved for those who demonstrate a never-ending commitment to act until they achieve. This level of resolve can move mountains, but it must be constant and consistent. As simplistic as this may sound, it is still the common denominator separating those who live their dreams from those who live in regret." -- Tony Robbins

BE HAPPY ZONE
By Lionel Ketchian
Happiness Is Mental Wealth!
I want to say thank you to all the readers of the "BE HAPPY ZONE." It has been one year since I started writing this column. I am able to practice the essence of happiness, by expressing my gratitude to you. I want to thank each and every one of you for reading this column. I would like to thank each of you that have attended the Happiness Club meetings, taken my course on Happiness at Sacred Heart University, received happiness coaching. I would like to thank the thousands of people that have logged on to our web site www.happinessclub.com, receive our Happ-E-Newsletter, called me, sent me mail, and e-mail me.
All of you have become my friends. I have met many of you and I am looking forward to meeting so many more of you. I am grateful for having you enter my life in many different ways. Some of you have shared your joys; some have shared your pain. I am grateful you were happy and shared your joy with me, and that you trusted me enough to share your pain, and problems. You have made my life better by being yourself and allowing me to get to know you.
I think this column expresses the greatness of a real community. This column exemplifies the positive things in the media. I am grateful to the Fairfield Citizen-News, and to the Editor, Patricia Hines for having the foresight to publish this column. Much good has been done in the community by bringing positive press to people's lives.
As I get older, I just celebrated another birthday, you begin to appreciate small things, maybe even everything. So I am in the mood to say to all of you ... make it a happy day. Everyday can be a happy day, an important day, when you are being grateful. Gratitude is the essential ingredient to happiness. If you are ever unhappy, try thinking about something you are grateful for and bingo, you cannot be unhappy! In fact people who are unhappy are really wrapped up in themselves, and their problems. So the next time you are not exactly feeling like a million dollars, find something to be grateful for. It works, try it!
F. Scott Fitzgerald said, "Money doesn't make you better. It just helps you live better." I think that happiness is very important in life. In fact happiness can help you live better. It can keep you healthier, it can help you recover from illness, and certainly positively affect your relationships. Money may not make you better, but happiness will most certainly make you better. As you become better as a result of being happy, you allow others to become happier as well.
I would love to print up some bumper stickers with the words: "Happiness is Mental Wealth!" I think that sums it up. Money can't make you happy, but happiness can make you wealthy. It can make you healthy, wealthy, and wise. Don't mess with a happy person, you have no way of controlling them or making them react to negative things. A happy person also wants you to be happy, but they won't make you. They can't, only you can be happy, but you can learn from them.
What other way is there for your children to learn happiness. It must be learned from people that are happy. And there are more and more happy people all the time. It is catching on fast. It may become an epidemic if you begin being happy right now. Don't wait till the kids go to bed, Be Happy Now.
In the April 11, edition of the Fairfield Citizen-News, I wrote an article called, Don't Sweat the Small Stuff! It had to do with Frank, a man that was told he only had a few months to live. The doctor had called off surgery since his cancer had metastasized. As a result of his positive attitude I asked him to speak to my April class going on at Sacred Heart University. He spoke about the fact that you can be happy no matter what! Don't sweat the small stuff, it's all small stuff, he said. The students got an opportunity to experience a person that was grateful for his life, and his family. He was happy, in spite of what he had to go through.
That article spoke about accepting the things you can't change, and how to bring about the good things that are possible, about miracles, and how to see them more often. I recently received this e-mail from Frank's son. "To our surprise, and joy, the doctor indicated the cancer in my father's stomach and esophagus was gone, the cancer in his lymph nodes was gone, and the spot on his liver had shrunk significantly." Will we ever know what made his cancer go away? No, we will not, but the important thing is that there is no doubt that happiness, and GRATITUDE is most definitely a part of this remarkable healing story.
Our next meeting is, September 13, 2001, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. The topic is "Being Happy!" and will be held in the Rotary Room, at the Fairfield Public Library, located at 1080 Old Post Road. There is no charge for the meeting. And don't miss the 4 week course I teach called, "Be Happy No Matter What!" at Sacred Heart University's Fairfield Campus. Held every Tuesday beginning 10/09-10/30 from 7:00-9:00 P.M. Call Gloria at SHU 365-7587 for registration.
Life is not fair, so be happy and you change your world. In fact if you become happy you are changing the world for the person next to you as well. So you can see how happiness can benefit not only you, but everyone else in your life as well. Gratitude and happiness go hand in hand to deliver the very best life has to offer. Go into each day practicing gratitude, and your gratitude becomes your attitude. Once you're "attitude's up," you will find you are in "a higher altitude." You'll be flying high on life.
Life is short and those birthdays come fast. Reach out and grab happiness with both hands and embrace it with gratitude. Dale Carnage said, "Remember happiness doesn't depend upon who you are or what you have; it depends solely upon what you think." Make the happiness choice: be happy no matter what! Pass on your happiness to others. Happiness is contagious … SMILE.
