Happ-E-Newsletter for December 1, 2003

Welcome My Dear Friend,
Don't miss The Happiness Show on TV.
I would also like to thank everyone who helped out on the annual Thanksgiving Basket Bridge this year. You raised over $5,000 and you helped feed more than 180 families who really needed the assistance. This year one of the volunteers delivered the food basket to a home that did not have a table to eat on. The individual went out and got a table, brought it back and gave it to the family to eat on.

Happ-E-Mail:) Thank-you, I will review the newsletter. What would it take to establish a club in Hawaii? Dar

Dear Dar, Thanks for asking that question. We are working on the answer to that question. We have just started the Happiness Show on Cable TV in the New York, Connecticut area. Once we have a few videos maybe people could start to air them in their homes. They could invite friends and people interested in becoming more aware of happiness and the many benefits it holds for us. Please stay tuned to the Happiness Newsletter for updates. Sending Love, and Happiness to you, Lionel

Happ-E-Mail:) Hello Lionel! I am thrilled to be writing you... A short time ago I received an email from George Ortega suggesting more research be conducted regarding subjective Well Being and this is where I was introduced to "The Happiness Show." Currently, I am a Ph.D. student studying organizational psychology with an emphasis in leadership and positive psychology. My goal, which I believe is similar to yours and George's, which is to increase happiness amongst the masses. Since first communicating with George, I have been envisioning myself co-hosting "The Happiness Show" in which I have already discussed with George. One issue in particular is that I am located in San Francisco. George recommended that I do a five minute segment for his show or that I just start my own cable show on the west coast. I am in the process of doing my homework as to what it takes for this is my first time exploring the area of cable television. The gist of this email is that I want to join forces with you and George in whatever capacity you will have me. Wishing you happiness from across the country! - Aymee

Happ-E-Mail:) Congratulations on your nutritional success! You seem to have the right formula: reduced calories in your diet coupled with burning more calories through enjoyable exercise. Don't get caught up in the battle of the scale though. As you retain lean muscle mass through good food choices, and increase lean muscle mass through exercise, you will lost fat and gain muscle. As muscle is about 3 times denser than fat, you may not lose any weight according to the scale. But you will lose unhealthy fat and gain healthy muscle. This may translate into slow or no decrease in your weight, but is still far healthier than fad or crash diets. The way your clothes fit you and the way you feel (increased energy, better sleep, emotional balance) is a better indicator of your success than what your body weighs on a scale. I am glad to see you making this a priority - you are an inspiration and a role model. We need to keep you around for many years to keep the Happiness Movement alive and well! Sincerely yours, Greg Dillon

Happ-E-Quote:) "The gem cannot be polished without friction, nor man perfected without trials." - Chinese Proverb

Happ-E-Mail:) Congratulations on the happiness diet. I have gained and lost weight so many times and this time I will keep it off. I also love my walks with my dog. I greet everyone I meet with a smile as well as my dog does with his tail. We could learn so much from our pets. Unconditional love. By the way Breyers has low carb ice cream, very good, low in calories and carbs perfect for the holiday treat. Happy and healthy holidays to you and your family. Love and hugs, Barb

Happ-E-Quote:) "If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself but to your own estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment." - Marcus Aurelius

Happ-E-Mail:) I am sure you won't remember, but, I took your class at Sacred Heart last year and I think it was wonderful! I loved it!! I thought I would be at the monthly meetings and have not even made one yet! I can't believe it. I know I will make it someday. I would like to receive your newsletter. Thanks so much, Meg Arena

Happ-E-Quote:) "Achievement seems to be connected with action. Successful men and women keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don't quit." - Conrad Hilton

Happ-E-Mail:) You are the one who is wonderful. You have given me a new way of thinking and a new way of looking at things. I am very thankful to you for that. You never know when someone will help you enjoy a new way of thinking and acting, and, when their suggestions make you react in a positive way. What gift could be greater or more loving to receive and to share? Keep smiling and be happy. You know and share the secret so others can be happy too. As always, Mary

Happ-E-Quote:) "To establish true self-esteem we must concentrate on our successes and forget about the failures and the negatives in our lives." - Denis Waitley

Happ-E-Mail:) I Love Ya! Suppose one morning you never wake up, do all your friends know you love them? I was thinking... I could die today, tomorrow or next week and I wondered if I had any wounds needing to be healed, friendships that needed rekindling or three words needing to be said. Sometimes, "I love you" can heal & bless. Let every one of your friends know you love them. Even if you think they don't love you back, you would be amazed at what those three little words and a smile can do. God forbid I die tomorrow..... I LOVE YA!!! - Marty Evans

Happ-E-Quote:) "Nature tops the list of potent tranquilizers and stress reducers. The mere sound of moving water has been shown to lower blood pressure." - Patch Adams

Happ-E-Mail:) I just got your Happiness Newsletter from Charlie Miller and saw all the wonderful things you are doing. I am so glad to see that you are continuing your Happiness work on a full out scale again. The world needs you and it made me smile. Big Hugs to you and your family. I hope to see you soon. Please put me on your list. I would love to receive the Happiness newsletter too. Happy Holidays, Kim Kasparian

The Happiness Television Show
By Lionel Ketchian

George Ortega is a happiness researcher and a promoter of happiness. Eighteen years ago he read a book called Gateway to Happiness, by Rabbi Zelig Pliskin, that was so well written and informative that he read and reread certain chapters many times, and for many months would even carry the book with him wherever he went. George is very knowledgeable about happiness and has learned through his reading that, with a certain type of training, many people can accomplish a 25 percent increase in happiness in just two weeks. He has similarly learned that increases made over a six-week training period will be sustained 9 to 18 months later.

George Ortega is one of the most sincere people I have ever known. He is committed to the teaching and sharing happiness. He has been imparting his information on a weekly public access TV program called "The Happiness Show" that is entirely devoted to happiness. The program is presented on Thursdays at 9 p.m. and premiered May 1, 2003, on Channel 76 in White Plains, New York.

George asked me to co-host the show with him and I happily agreed. We have begun taping shows together in a White Plains studio. You will be able to watch our co-hosted series beginning in January 2004. Starting right now, you can watch "The Happiness Show," every Wednesday night, from 8:30 - 9:00 PM. It will be broadcast in these six towns on Cablevision of Connecticut channel 77. It airs in Bridgeport, Fairfield, Milford, Orange, Stratford and Woodbridge. Tune in and catch some happiness.

George said, "The Happiness Show helps people become happier through tried and true methods. Keys to happiness presented on the show include spending time with one's significant other, and friends and family, and limiting our desires. Sometimes, we want things that are not necessary for our happiness, and our wanting them causes us to be unhappy."

I am honored to be co-hosting The Happiness Show with George Ortega. He is an authentic human being. He has understood the value and the tremendous benefits of Being Happy. He has made the Happiness Decision in his life and uses it every single day. He is a caring and compassionate person that deeply cares about other people. It is his desire to promote the benefits of happiness training in schools across the country. He is very active in promoting happiness awareness to psychologists so they will conduct additional research on happiness increase, and to marketers so they will understand the untapped potential in selling happiness training to consumers directly as a product.

If you ask George why there's so much unhappiness he will tell you that people are basically chasing after the wrong things. George said, "For example the most popular way to achieve happiness is through more money. But 40 years of research has shown that doesn't really affect it. We also don't understand happiness. We've never been taught what makes us happy and what doesn't, either in school or in families."

George said, "A lot of times, we choose to compare ourselves with those who have more than us. Some of us more wisely compare ourselves to those who have less, and that actually helps us to become happier." George talks about ways to become happier, "One way is to smile even if you have to fake it. George works on increasing his own happiness by listening to tape recordings while he walks through town or does work around the house of his own voice, saying statements like, "I am completely happy, " and "everything happens for the best."

Share the JOY with the Happiness Club at its annual Holiday Party on Thursday, December 11, from 7:00 - 8:45 p.m. at Fairfield Public Library, Memorial Room, 1080 Old Post Road, Fairfield. Join us for some "HOLIDAY HAPPINESS." Please bring a dish of food (food, cookies, cake, etc.) to share with us at the table. We will have the soft drinks, coffee, and some music for fun. Meet some new friends and get yourself in a happy mood for the holidays. Admission is free. The public is invited to attend.
